Fall on the Ranch: Fresh Grass, Fat Calves, and a New Chapter Ahead
Fall has officially made its way to northwest Wyoming, and it’s one of the best times of year to be out on the ranch. The mornings are crisp, the air smells like alfalfa and wood smoke, and the cows are fat and content grazing on green regrowth. After a long summer of heat and dry winds, we’re grateful to say the rain showed up right when we needed it most.
Pastures Rebounding After Summer
Good moisture this fall has been a blessing. The pastures have bounced back beautifully — a rich green carpet across the fields that’s given our cows plenty to eat before winter sets in. Watching them spread out across the pastures, slick-coated and healthy, is a rewarding reminder of why we do what we do.
We’ve been rotating them through fresh sections of grass, letting each pasture rest and recover before the next graze. It’s all part of our regenerative approach to ranching — building soil health, preserving the land, and ensuring that both cattle and grass thrive year after year.
Big Projects and Progress
This fall also marks an exciting step forward for us: construction has begun on our new barn.
It’s a project we’ve dreamed about for years — a dedicated space for our ranch horses to stay warm, dry, and comfortable through the colder months. Of course, it’ll also come in handy for the occasional bottle calf or early calver caught in a spring storm. Having a functional barn built for both horses and livestock care will make a world of difference as we head into winter and calving season.
Weaning Season Approaching
Weaning is just around the corner, which means long days sorting calves and keeping a close eye on everyone’s health and stress levels. It’s always a milestone — seeing the next generation of CR Angus calves growing strong and ready for the future. Each one represents years of genetics, care, and attention, and it’s rewarding to watch them transition successfully.
Looking Ahead
Fall is a busy season, but it’s also a reflective one. As we prep for winter and settle into shorter days, we’re grateful — for good rains, healthy cattle, loyal customers, and the chance to do what we love every day.
This year also brings a new chapter as we transition from BeefBox to CR Angus Ranch. Our name may be new, but our promise hasn’t changed: to raise premium-quality Angus beef the right way — on open pastures, with care and integrity.
Thank you for being part of our story. We’re proud to share the journey with you.
